The HDFC Diners Black Credit Card is a premium card offered by HDFC Bank that comes with a range of rewards and benefits. The card has a joining/annual fee of INR 10,000 plus taxes, which is waived off on spending INR 5 lakhs. The base reward rate for the card is 3.3%, which is calculated as 5 reward points on every INR 150 spent. However, no reward points are given for fuel, wallet load, and EMI (EasyEMI and SmartEMI) spends. From January 2023 onwards, no reward points will be given on rent payments too.
The card also offers accelerated reward rates of 2x-10x RPs on HDFC SmartBuy, which can be as high as 33.3% reward rate. However, the SmartBuy reward points accrual has monthly and daily caps which may limit the reward rate. Additionally, the card offers 2x reward points on weekend dining, with a cap of 1000 reward points per day. The card also has monthly and annual milestones, which provide vouchers and memberships to various platforms such as Tata Cliq, Ola, Amazon Prime, MMT Black, Club Marriott, Forbes and Times Prime.
The HDFC Diners Black Credit Card also provides unlimited domestic and international lounge access for primary and add-on cardholders. Eligibility criteria for the card is relatively easy, with the bank website stating that a 1.75 lakh monthly salary is required. However, most people who have this card have much lower monthly salaries. If you have an HDFC Bank credit card with a credit limit of INR 5 lakh or more, especially the Regalia card, you can simply write to customer care for an upgrade.
Some of the positives of the HDFC Diners Black Credit Card include its 3.3% reward rate, which is among the best in the industry, unlimited lounge access, and Smartbuy benefits that offer 2-10x accelerated reward points on purchases made on the SmartBuy portal. The milestone benefits of the card are also straightforward and easy to understand. However, the card also has some negatives, such as the Smartbuy program having a lower multiplier than the Infinia card, and no reward points for fuel, wallet load, and EMI (EasyEMI and SmartEMI) spends. From January 2023 onwards, no reward points will be given on rent payments too.
